When Yahoo tried to provide original journalistic content a few years ago, the endeavor failed miserably – now it’s trying again.
The media portal giant has already hired nearly a dozen journalists from places like BusinessWeek and Politco who will endeavor to deliver orginal reporting to the Yahoo community.
Yahoo is also opening its own bureau in Washington, D.C. but it isn’t the only force that wants to deliver original content.
AOL has been throwing money into its race toward high-quality original reporting by hiring journalists away from traditional media outlets. It says it will pour funds into hyperlocal reporting to support its acquisition of Patch.com, a hyperlocal news aggregator.
What does this all mean? It’s a manifestation of the increasingly common trend where news and original reporting is being delivered through media webportals.
